WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

The economic activities in Kayango are largely informal. Most residents plant and harvest agricultural crops which are mostly for domestic consumption. With the food they raise, some Ugandans have a single meal a day while some can afford two. This means that much of the agricultural production is not measurable in monetary terms.

Besides agricultural endeavors, the majority of Ugandans in this area perform unskilled labor while a minority are skilled in a specific trade. Per the general standard of living, most live on $2/day but for most, there is no guarantee/security of regular earning; one could earn $2 today but nothing at all the next.

The lack of education, inconsistent income and futile futures have left this isolated, rural third-world community hopeless. Children are malnourished, skilled medical care is scare, housing consists of temporary mud huts with grass roofs and most families can not afford proper educations for their children.

Kayango has long experienced poverty, deprivation and hopelessness but because of the hope of Jesus Christ being poured into the children that we minister to, we pray those days will soon be a thing of the past.

The Lord commands us to care for the orphan, the least of these, the child.

Our mission is to reach Uganda for Christ through the care, education and discipleship of its youth, allowing the children we sponsor to succeed spiritually, personally, and financially as they help to transform the community around them.

  • No longer will they struggle to find work; they now have educations and skills and full-time careers.

  • No longer will they have to scrounge for food; they now know how to grow it, raise it or have means to procure it.

  • No longer will they have to wonder if they will survive another day; they now know they have been given the tools to thrive.

  • No longer will they have to search for hope in the things of this world; they now know their hope is in Jesus.

The prayers of the three villagers were answered through our ministry and CARE Uganda has brought hope to Kayango!
